COVID-19 is having an impact on the resources available at food banks across Canada. The Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank offers food and support to people and community groups in need within Cambridge and North Dumfries, and they are not an exception to the challenges facing food banks during the pandemic.
The Ayr-North Dumfries Lions Club is organizing a food drive on Saturday, August 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Food will be collected in the parking lot at the North Dumfries Community Complex, 2958 Greenfield Road, Ayr, using a curbside drop off model.
Put your bagged donation in your trunk or hatchback and pull up to the collection vehicle. Pop your trunk or hatchback from the safety of the inside of your vehicle and masked volunteers will remove the bags for you. Collected food will be delivered to the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank.
The food bank is in particular need of: canned meat, canned fruit, small bags of rice, sandwich spreads (e.g. peanut butter) and snacks (nut free) suitable for kids. They also need pasta, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, soups and stews, brown beans in sauce, cereal, individual packets of oatmeal, and jarred baby food. Please remember that the food bank cannot take expired or opened food, or anything without an ingredients list.
Township residents needing assistance with food can obtain weekly hampers from Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank, no proof of income required. For more information please call (519) 622-6550.
