The CP Holiday Train is on its way to Ayr with Alan Doyle and the Beautiful Band to entertain us and spread Christmas cheer. The CP Holiday Train is celebrating 21 years of collecting food and raising funds for food banks across North America. The train will stop in Ayr at the Inglis Street crossing at approximately 5:20 p.m.
No need to make supper before the event because Ayr Foodland has you covered! The Schneiders Community Cruiser will be parked on Inglis Street selling hotdogs ($2) and water ($1) from 4:00-6:30 p.m. (Cash only) All proceeds will go to the local food bank. To keep you warm during the event, Langs' North Dumfries Community Health Centre will be handing out hot chocolate.
ROAD CLOSURES & PARKING: Residents of Ayr are encouraged to walk to this event. There is no parking available at the event. Parking is available downtown and in municipal lots (Gibson Street and Church Street) only. The Township will close Inglis Street, from Northumberland to Willison from 3:00-7:00 p.m. to ensure pedestrian safety. Parking will be permitted on one side only on Thompson, Elliot, Colquhoun and Willison Streets and on one side of Cooper Street from Willison Street to Upton Court. (Temporary no parking signs will be placed during the day) Vehicles parked illegally will be ticketed or towed. The Township will establish barrier-free parking (limited spots) for those with an Accessible Parking Permit from the Ministry of Transportation. TRAFFIC CONTROL: There will be officers from Waterloo Regional Police Service assisting with traffic and crowd control before, during and after the event. Expect delays in this area due to the volume of traffic and please watch for pedestrians.
FOOD BANK DONATIONS: Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item for Neighbours Helping Neighbours. They will have two trailers set up on Inglis Street and one at Calvary Church on Northumberland Street to collect donations.
OTHER INFORMATION: The North Dumfries Fire Department will be on Inglis Street with one of their trucks and portable lights. If family members get lost or separated from one another, please make the fire truck your central meeting spot. There will also be porta-potties in this area.
